The Future Directions Committee (FDC) - the Ekka’s youth steering group - is seeking expressions of interest from potential new members.
FDC chair Ari McCamley said the prospective candidates must be aged between 18 and 35 and also looking to make their mark in agriculture and business.
“The FDC was formed to provide a youthful perspective on how the RNA can fulfil its mission into the future and to engage with young people both during and outside of the show,” Mr McCamley said.
“Candidates will have a passion for Ekka, fresh ideas for its future and the personal and business skills and networks to bring those ideas to life.
“During Ekka you can find committee members stewarding in competitions, organising the hugely successful Queensland Young Farmers Challenge and The Ekka Ball or hosting sponsors and visitors to the show.”
The Brisbane Showgrounds redevelopment has seen it become the centrepiece of a new urban village precinct including a hotel, residential apartments, commercial offices and a destination for food and dining, showcasing the RNA’s proud paddock to palate heritage.
“With the committee’s help, the Brisbane Showgrounds will forever remain a destination for lifestyle and culture, hosting world-class events all year round,” Mr McCamley said.
Members of the committee regularly attend other shows in Australia and have traveled to Canada, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Scotland and Zambia to participate in the Royal Agricultural Societies of the Commonwealth’s Next Generation forums, conferences and missions.
Expressions of interest close on October 7.
