The Charters Towers Regional Council assigned $70,000 in its budget to maintain the facility and enhance safety and usability of the yards.
The works conducted included cleaning of manure from holding pens, resurfacing of holding pens with road base material, repairs to fence panels and gates in the area of the cattle receiving ramp and repairs to gate posts in the area of the middle weigh bridge.
Charters Towers Regional Council Manager of Rural Services, David Atwell, said the cleaning of manure from holding pens was to increase performance of the facility.
“The resurfacing of cattle holding pens will provide improved drainage in times of wet weather and better welfare of cattle held at those times,” he said.
“Council is looking to continue to provide a suitable venue for livestock to be sold efficiently thereby enabling an opportunity for an increase in throughput, thus maintaining a competitive market position so that economic benefits continue to flow to industry, business and the wider Charters Towers regional community.”
Council confirmed future improvements were scheduled to occur during the 2017-18 financial year that would include additional resurfacing of holding pens, structural improvements to again further enhance the operations.
The Dalrymple Saleyards facility since reopened on January 3 and commenced processing cattle for the live export industry.
