Store steers top at 322c

The prime cattle consisted of 219 bullocks, 70 heifers, 433 cows and 132 bulls, while the store cattle yarded 376 steers, 374 heifers and 13 cows and calves.

Cattle comprised of good lines of good cows and young male weaners dominated the yarding. The yarding was drawn from Torrens Creek, Einasleigh, Collinsville, Mt Isa, Forsayth, Georgetown, Marlborough, Clermont, coastal and local areas.

Bullocks and steers under 500kg were 10-12c cheaper. Heavy bullocks over 500kg were quoted 2c dearer, heifers were 1c easier and cows were unchanged on last week’s rates.

The prime quotes saw bullocks top at 265c/kg for 22 Ox sold on account of GW Carrick, Maitland Station, Einasleigh, that weighed 569.5kg to return $1510 per head.

Best priced trade heifers were presented on behalf of Northern Livestock Services, Charters Towers, which made 249c/kg to weigh 388kg and return $967 per head.

The top pen of cows were sold by Bluegrass Cattle Co, Amarra, Charters Towers, for 211c/kg and weighed 546kg to return $1153 per head.

Bulls sold on account of Ball & Co, Rockvale, Nelia, topped at 260c/kg and weighed 662kg to return $1722 per head.

Store Quotes saw 763 feeder cattle of lesser quality this week. Young male weaner types and older, dominated the yarding as smaller and mixed lines than last week. Steers and heifers were 10-15c cheaper while weaner males sold to similar rates as last week.

A pen of seven steers sold on behalf of G Freeman, Hughenden, topped at 322c/kg and weighed 187.1kg and realised $603 per head.

A good pen of 10 heifers on account of KG Wills, Home Hill, made 259c/kg, weighed 250kg and returned a good average of $648 per head.

Cows and calves sold on account of A Young, Georgetown, returned $1080 per unit.
