The lawn mower derby at the Richmond Field Days was an event not to be missed, providing a roaring good time for competitors and spectators alike.

Competing for a prize pool of $2000, four teams of three competitors nominated for this year's race, with Richmond-based drivers Tom Auty, Saxon Lynn and Alister Kelso eventually claiming bragging rights.
Race organiser Nikko Lord, Sutherland, Richmond, said the nine-lap race had become one of the main features of the field days.
"The rules have been pretty loose on what qualifies as a lawn mower the past few years, so we've seen a fair range of mowers slash four-wheelers which has been a really good laugh," he said.
"There's a high failure rate on these mowers; generally two will blow up and then the next year another two teams will pop up."
Reaching speeds of up to 90km/h, Mr Lord said the spectacle included a lot of wrecks, Avgas fumes and dust.
Race rules include no blades on the cutting deck and the driver must remain seated on the mower at all times, even when stuck.
